Ain’t God Good?

One may ask, “Pastor, what good is wisdom over a high IQ and high level advanced educational degrees”?  As I study the Scriptures, I find that Proverbs has much to say about wisdom.

First of all, we learn that “fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom” (Prov. 9:10)……not a literal fear, but a high level of respect and reverence for God and who He is. Prov. 4:7 tells us that “wisdom is the principal thing”. According to Prov. 8:11, “wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it”. Proverbs continues to tell us that “a man of understanding is one with wisdom”.  There are hundreds of times in both the Old and New Testament that the word wisdom is used.  James told his readers that if “one lacks wisdom, let him ask of God who gives to all liberally and without reproach…..”.

Have you ever considered that the greatest economical and financial wizards make mistakes about finances?  (Consider our Country’s deficit)!

Have you heard that there are more divorces in the United States than there are marriages?  These separations happen among the rich and intelligent more often than with poor and uneducated folks.  Do you realize that decisions made by educated people take hundreds of unborn lives annually?  One may ask, why all these troubling concerns are made by such intelligent, educated people?   The answer is simple….intelligence comes from man… wisdom is given by God.

I can’t help but to believe that if we acquired God given wisdom, we could overcome economic pitfalls because we would have “understanding”. Our homes would be stronger because they would have the wisdom of God and be able to apply it when making family impact decisions. With understanding given by God, wise decisions would be reached regarding the sanctity of life.  With God-given wisdom and understanding, love for others would prosper and -violent crimes would decrease.

If only people today would use God-given wisdom mixed with intelligence and education, what would the world be like?

Where does one find this wisdom? That answer is simple, God’s Word, the Holy Spirit, and from many folk, both young and old who have been given this gift.  We find this wisdom trait by “asking God for wisdom”!  However, as we read on in the first chapter of James, verse 6 advises us that we must ask “in faith for this wisdom, with no doubting”. God is so Good and will give one wisdom if they ask….. in faith.

Church, All the time God is GREAT!!!
